The work encompasses a wide field of vision from high to low and near to far and this gives the piece multiple points of focus from the carefully rendered plants in the foreground to the sheer sides of the buildings to the distant mountains silhouetted at the end of the valley. Castrovalva also demonstrates Escher's early interest in spatial relationships and his attempts to capture three-dimensionality on paper. This drama is heightened by the overall darkness of the image and the strong contrast between these tones and the paler highlights. Like many of his Italian works, this is a detailed and accurate portrayal but despite the image's realism it maintains an air of fantasy. In these he explored depictions of the landscapes, towns, and buildings that he encountered on his extensive travels around the country. This image is part of the body of work that Escher produced in Italy from 1923 to 1935. Over the course of his 60 year career he produced a total of 448 prints, an average of only seven or eight a year. The process to create his detailed and precise images was time-consuming and required a great deal of skill and manual dexterity.

Is there any chance of someone here giving me an "aha!" moment. However, a simple thing like trying to make a cell change colour seems to be eluding me, I've read so many web pages on what to do, but the majority of these all point to having to manually edit the cells once the table has been inserted. I have an excel spreadsheet (no booing at the back there! :) which has one cell into which I've carefully crafted the markup required to insert a table-plus table and info boxes in the appropriate cells. StackEdit supports inserting emojis in your file using the Markdown emoji markup. StackEdit can render musical scores using the ABC notation. Omitting the header above the divider produces a headerless table in at least Perl Text::MultiMarkdown and in FletcherPenney MultiMarkdown. In your second line, change it to :-:-:-:. StackEdit enables you to write sequence diagrams and flow charts using a simple syntax. By default, the header texts are center aligned, you may want to align them to the left if you dont want the header to standout. As soon as you put a header or text in there, the background colour reverts to default.Īpologies for hijacking the thread, but I'm getting completely exasperated at trying to find a comprehensive example of formatting backgrounds/cell colours using markup language rather than having to manually edit it! In a nutshell: It will only allow for 'strict' markdown tables, where every line starts and ends with a character, and the 'cell alignments' line is properly formatted. StackEdit renders mathematics from LaTeX expressions inside your markdown file, as you would do on Stack Exchange. Note that none of these are enabled by default, but must either be explicitly turned on via options, or get turned on as. For example, Pandocs multilinetables and gridtables both offer support for multiline cells, however, the more popular pipetables do not. When setting the colour, it will take UNLESS you actually put text into the "Cell". A table is an arrangement of data in rows and columns. It depends on which Markdown implementation you are using. Trying to work with the Confluence Wiki markup, the formatting of background colours seems to be all over the shop. markdown Table Tables are used to represent the data in a multidimensional format.
It is a story that asks the reader about the value of empathy and reminds us that even those that are suffering and at the lowest of the low are still human. Its not the most graphic piece of literature I’ve ever read but it’s up there. How quickly a person can go from being a regular member of society to becoming a reviled burden of that same society is a common theme.ĭo I recommend this manga to anyone? Absolutely not, especially for those that are faint of heart. The similarities between the two pieces of fiction about the downfall of man and the tragedy of life without empathy are apparent. I think it’s interesting that the author made note that when choosing the official English title for this manga, Metamorphosis was selected because the author was inspired by Kafka and his existentialist classic, The Metamorphosis. Despite that, there is value to the horrors that Saki experiences because there are pieces that ring true to actual victims of abuse. Not to mention, literally, every other person in this story is despicable and one abuse after the next is layered on with every interaction that she has with others. It takes a certain suspension of belief for one to assume that an individual at every step will make self-destructive choices, whether or not it is out of desperation or a genuine self-loathing. I’ve seen a few people describe the story as realistic and taken as a whole it’s far from it. Now this story is still hentai, and so naturally it has its limits and the amount of graphic content is going to be excessive. At its core, Metamorphosis tackles the tragedy of teenagers or really anyone suffering from abuse or addiction that fall between the cracks. She falls further and further into a life that she doesn’t want as she loses the support of the people around her. Saki’s loss of innocence at the hands of the people around her causes her to lose her identity and she descends gradually to the darkest places imaginable. Saki is a naive young girl that just wants to fit in and finds herself drawn into a world of drugs, sex addiction, and prostitution. It is the classic story of the messy path to adulthood in a vile, modern society and it is told in an oppressive grimdark style. Soon, after her first day in high school, an older guy called Hayato flirts with her and Saki falls head over heels for him. After graduating from middle school, she decides to make more friends, transforming her own image. Henshin, otherwise known as Emergence is the story of a nerdy young girl’s high school debut going horribly, terribly wrong, and that’s a generous way to put it. Read MEmergence (Metamorphosis) - Saki Yoshida is a shy, friendless student. Metamorphosis is one of the most notorious hentai manga out there and for a while, it seems like everyone was talking about it, and for good reason. Beams can be cut to length and notched or drilled at the building site, and double, triple, or quadruple ply is used for strength, the same as dimensional lumber, making it a versatile choice. The length often depends on the manufacturer, with 80’ being available but 60’ or less are more common due to transportation restraints. Most building suppliers will carry 8’, 12’, and 16’ lengths and order in longer lengths as required. Plus, special orders between up to 60’ or 80’ are available – depending on the manufacturer. The lengths commonly range from 4’ to 48’, usually available in 4’ increments. Laminated veneer lumber typically comes in 1-3/4”, 3-1/2”, 5-1/4”, and 7” widths or thicknesses, and depths of 5-1/2” to 24”, including standard and nonstandard depths. The distance an LVL beam can span depends on its width and depth. How Far Can an LVL Beam Span Without Support? The price per piece is affected by the distance shipped, as well as the dimensions of the LVL beam itself. It is then wrapped for shipping to domestic and international locations. The LVL wood beams are stamped every 4’ with the manufacturer’s name, branding logo, or product identification number and stress grade in accordance with ASTM D5456 or CSA 086. The LVL sheets are sanded smooth on all sides and then cut into widths and lengths based on market demand or special orders. LVL is also straighter and of more uniform dimensions than regular lumber, and is less likely to shrink, twist, warp, or bow. Since the layers of wood grain all run parallel to each other, LVL is similar to solid wood, but at least twice as strong. The stacks then pass into a machine that produces high heat and pressure to ensure a strong, long-lasting adhesive bond between layers. The number of sheets in the stack determines the thickness of the laminated beam. The glued sheets are then stacked with the grain running longitudinally like solid lumber not alternating longitudinally and latitudinally as with plywood. The veneer then passes through a gluing machine that applies a thin layer of waterproof adhesive. Once dried and trimmed, the sheets pass through a sander or grinder that flattens and smooths them to a consistent thickness. The veneer sheet is then dried with hot air, causing it to shrink some, and then it is trimmed to size for LVL production. The logs are debarked, pressure steamed with a mix of water vapor and chemicals for 48-hours, and then run through a veneer peeler that ‘unrolls’ the log into a continuous sheet with a thickness between 1/16” and 1/4”. It is made in a similar manner to plywood using softwood veneer logs or peelers. LVL or laminated veneer lumber was used to make propellers for aircraft in WW2 but didn’t become a construction material until the mid-1970s. How Far Can an LVL Beam Span Without Support?.Our goal is to provide you with information to help with your next or current building project. Additionally, we look at how to install an LVL beam. We explain how to determine beam size and also discuss their cost. In this article, we’ll identify what LVL beams are, their different sizes, how far they can span, and their different uses. Depending on its width, depth, and load parameters, an LVL beam can span up to 80-feet. The layers are heated, glued, and pressed together in different widths or thicknesses, and then cut to depths to meet various load requirements. After explaining what it was and the LVL beam span, I decided to give it a try, but I also wanted more information.Īn LVL or laminated veneer lumber beam is made up of thin layers of wood veneer similar to plywood. Such was a recent experience when I was looking for a beam for a renovation project. Every time I wander through my local lumber store, I seem to encounter a new product, not that it’s all that new, just to my awareness or my location. That’s down slightly from 73.7 percent in 2005, though in 2010, that number had dipped to 72.2 percent. Of the roughly 2.7 million American Indians and Alaska Natives counted by the 2016 census, 73 percent of those aged 5 years or older spoke only English. However, the majority of Native Americans today speak only English. The next most common is Yupik, at 19,750, which is spoken in Alaska. The Navajo language, for instance, is the most spoken Native American language today, with nearly 170,000 speakers. Though most of these languages are on the verge of dying out, some are holding on. That’s out of 350 total spoken languages in the country. In spite of everything, there are still approximately 150 Native North American languages spoken in the United States today by more than 350,000 people, according to American Community Survey data collected from 2009 to 2013. At these schools, children were forbidden from speaking their tribal languages, wearing their tribal clothing and observing native religions. They crowded onto increasingly remote and limited parcels of land known as reservations, and beginning in the 1860s and lasting through the early 20th century, they were also subjected to a program of forced cultural assimilation, carried out through government-mandated boarding schools. Native Americans had been systematically removed from their ancestral lands over the years as the result of force and/or various treaties. Of course, the extinction of various indigenous languages was more than just a mathematical consequence. territory dwindled from 10 million to less than 300,000. It’s estimated that between 14, the number of indigenous peoples living in U.S. Some settlers intentionally gave blankets to the natives that came from quarantined areas or infected patients.Īfter hundreds of years of battles, wars and atrocities, including the systematic, state-sanctioned genocide of between 9,000 and 16,000 California Indians from 1846 to 1873, the condition of the Native American population was a shell of its former self. Even the spread of disease, which is thought to have resulted in 75 to 90 percent of all Indian deaths, was not always an accident. Their guns and horses gave them a major advantage - as did their immunity. When Europeans first began to colonize the Americas in earnest, they brought diseases like smallpox and measles with them, as well as a settlement strategy that involved fighting and killing off Native Americans for their land. North of Mexico, it’s estimated that roughly half of the Native American languages have become extinct, and of those still in use, more than half are spoken by fewer than 1,000 people. By the middle of the 20th century, roughly two-thirds of all indigenous American languages (that’s counting North, Central and South America) had died out or were on the brink of extinction. The effect of European settlement was a deleterious one to Native American language and culture, to put it very mildly. With all of that said, the movement to reclaim and preserve Native American languages has been underway since the Civil Rights era. They also estimate that without restoration efforts, there will be at most 20 still spoken in 2050. The Columbia Encyclopedia cites a widely accepted estimate that there were more than 15 million speakers of over 2,000 indigenous languages spoken across the entire Western Hemisphere at the time of Christopher Columbus’ arrival.Īccording to the Indigenous Language Institute, there were once more than 300 indigenous languages spoken in the United States, and approximately 175 remain today. Large amounts of local knowledge about fauna and flora, ecosystem management, local place names, spiritual values, and so on are all submerged, altered or gone because the original languages that expressed these concepts are gone or no longer well understood.” “The highly elaborate dances that accompanied the oral tradition are frequently also gone. “With the loss of the languages, all kinds of wonderful things that the speakers did with their languages have also vanished, for example, some of the greatest works of oral literature ever produced - the multilingual performances with different characters speaking different languages that was found in the Pacific Northwest,” Anderson said. That’s more than all of Europe has combined, he added. It’s probably impossible to measure the true magnitude of indigenous culture and Native American languages that have been lost on this continent, but many organizations have tried.įor instance, Greg Anderson, director of Living Tongues, told National Geographic in 2009 that only five language families exist in Oregon today - with most of them comprising only a handful of speakers - compared to 14 language families in Oregon 200 years ago. |
